Database Administrator (DBA)
Role Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing organizational databases to ensure optimal performance,
data integrity, and adherence to compliance standards such as OHIP. This role involves database design,
optimization, and ongoing maintenance to support business operations. The DBA collaborates with technical teams
to implement best practices and secure data storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Database Management
- Design, install, configure, and maintain organizational databases.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of database systems.
- Monitor and manage database health, including backups, recovery plans, and disaster recovery processes.
Performance Optimization
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and schema design.
- Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks to enhance system responsiveness.
- Implement monitoring tools to track performance metrics and usage trends.
Data Integrity and Compliance
- Ensure data integrity through regular audits, validations, and checks.
- Maintain compliance with OHIP standards and other relevant regulations.
- Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
Collaboration and Support
- Work with developers, system administrators, and business analysts to support data-driven initiatives.
- Provide technical support and training for database users and stakeholders.
- Document database processes, configurations, and best practices for reference and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as OHIP, HIPAA, or GDPR.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (certifications like Oracle DBA or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator preferred).
